As you browse Instagram, you may come across comments (on your own posts or another user’s) that contain spam or abusive content. You can report these comments to Instagram for review. Our guide will show you how this works.
Note: These screenshots were captured in the Instagram application on iOS.
Step 1: Swipe from right to left on the comment you wish to report as spam or abuse, until you see the exclamation point symbol.
Step 2: Tap the exclamation point symbol.
Step 3: Tap “Spam or Scam” to report the comment for being spam or containing a scam, or tap “Abusive Content” to report the comment for containing abusive content, such as harassment.
If you tap “Spam or Scam,” the comment will be reported and the process is over. If you tap “Abusive Content,” you’ll be taken to a screen that allows you to select the specific type of abuse the comment contains, such as “Harassment or bullying” or “Hate speech or symbols.” Note: You can also choose “Spam” on this list.
Depending on the option you choose, you may see another menu that allows you to add more details to your report before sending it. For instance, if you tap “Harassment or bullying,” you’ll be shown a list of content types that aren’t tolerated, and will then be asked to clarify who is being harassed.
