Bonobos Founder Andy Dunn Is Leaving Walmart in Early 2020 – Adweek

After two years at the world’s largest retailer, Bonobos founder Andy Dunn is leaving Walmart. Dunn joined the company as svp of digital consumer brands when Walmart acquired Bonobos, the online menswear brand where he had been CEO since its inception in 2007.

Dunn, who was a 2018 member of the Adweek 50, announced his departure in a post on LinkedIn titled A Love Letter to Walmart. In it, Dunn gushes about the experiences he’s had at the company, from implementing online grocery pickup and his affection for the Walmart cheer to acquisitions like plus size women’s fashion brand Eloquii and the retailer’s response to the El Paso shooting.

“When it comes to making the world a better place, the world’s largest company is, 57 years later, just getting started,” Dunn wrote. “As Sam [Walton] said, the fact that we’re all in this together is the secret. At Walmart, it’s hidden in plain sight.”

Earlier this year, Bonobos laid off dozens of employees in an attempt to offset ecommerce losses. Walmart paid $310 million for the company in 2017, the same year it purchased vintage-inspired online retailer ModCloth, which it sold at a loss in October.

Walmart responded to Dunn’s departure in a statement, calling him an “entrepreneur at heart” who “has decided now is the right time to take the next steps in his career.” Dunn will stay on at Walmart through January to work with merchandising and brand leadership on the transition.
